It’s National Apprentice Week 2020!
It’s National Apprentice Week 2020 a chance to celebrate the positive impact of apprenticeships across the UK.
Here at TesTex we have a lot to celebrate and to be proud of. Investment in technology and training are a core part of our business and are essential to us delivering on our reputation for high quality NDT and Inspection services.
As a company we’ve found that apprenticeships have mutual benefits and are keen to continue recruiting, supporting and training new apprentices.
Benefits to Employers
Currently, we have six full time NDT Technician, Apprentices working with us, Ben Bertie, Charlie Barrass, Jamie Brown, Rhodie Clark, Matt Lister and Ben Sibbick. All of our apprentices work really hard and contribute to the business, picking up skills quickly and assisting qualified technicians and managers where appropriate.
Ben Bertie was our first apprentice, joining us almost three years ago. Now in the final stages of his apprenticeship Ben has successfully achieved three PCN qualifications. Once complete he will be a fully qualified NDT Technician and will have the option to remain with us and complete further training. Our Technical Manager Danny Reed commented,
“As our first apprentice Ben has set the bar high with the standard of his work and the dedication, he has put in. Through our apprenticeship scheme Ben has attained PCN qualifications and valuable industry experience to set him well on his way for a career in non-destructive testing with TesTex.”
Benefits to Apprentices
Once qualified all of our apprentices will have the option to do a further two years specialising in more specific NDT disciplines. From this point, all of our apprentices will be given the opportunity to stay with us as Specialist NDT Technicians. As a growing business it’s an exciting time to be part of the team. We support our staff with ongoing career development and progression routes available within the business.
But don’t just take our word for it. We asked one of our first-year apprentices Rhodie Clarke how he was finding it so far and what he thought the benefits of an apprenticeship were, versus other options, he said…
“I am learning lots on the apprenticeship all about the industry, NDT methods, use of equipment etc. This will benefit me in later life once I have become fully qualified. Becoming fully qualified gives me, a brilliant job and career also provides me with a comfortable living.
I think Apprenticeships are an advantage to college as you get day to day on site experience and you get paid for it instead of studying in a classroom.
In my opinion I am improving each day I work at TesTex learning the job, the methods and how to perform my job safely and efficiently. So far so good glad to be on board.”
We’d like to thank all of our apprentices for their hard work and dedication and to encourage anybody considering an apprenticeship to get in touch, email careers@testexndt.co.uk
