Training Matters at TesTex NDTLaura Nelson
Not all NDT companies are the same. Like many others we have all the latest technologies at our disposal, but what makes us stand out from our competitors? Alongside a reliable service it’s our approach to training and CPD.
Our company ethos is to continually develop our staff and service offer. In this way, we often exceed expectations, for example, we’ve developed our own testing equipment and inspection techniques to meet customers’ requirements and have a dedicated Technical Manager in-house. This gives our customers the confidence and peace of mind that the services we provide are to the highest industry standards and are up-to-date with current NDT inspection techniques and technologies.
Continuous in-house training, competence levels and service quality are managed and delivered by our Technical Manager, Andy Beeson
Introducing Andy Beeson, Technical Manager
Andy has worked for TesTex for over 11 years, starting as a Technical clerk following an NVQ in Electrical Engineering. At TesTex, part of our culture is to develop our staff from apprentices through to Inspectors and above. Andy is no exception, quickly working his way up to Senior Technician and most recently Technical Manager.
His role includes providing technical solutions and guidance to customers, monitoring and continually improving our technicians’ abilities and knowledge while ensuring the latest technologies are being utilised. Qualified to PCN level III in Ultrasonic Testing (UT) and Magnetic Particle Inspection (MPI), Andy organises and oversees our apprenticeship scheme and comprehensive in-house training programs.
What Training Do You Do?
As part of our UKAS 17020 accreditation in UT, MPI & DPI we conduct competency audits on all our technicians who are certified to PCN level II. This ensures we are meeting industry standards however; we go above and beyond this with continuous in-house training programs, site technical audits and online training for all TesTex developed inspection techniques. Each individual technician has a specific internal training plan to ensure all our staff are trained and competent within their relevant field of expertise.
This includes for example, in-house exercises where we ask our technicians to find known defects in a test sample. Andy comments,
We do this so we can identify areas of improvement and create specific individual development and training plans for each of our technicians.
To meet customer requirements, we’ve developed our own inspection equipment such as the Falcon S-Series floor scanner and the Low Frequency Electromagnetic Technique (LFET) pipeline scanning system. Working in conjunction with our head office in Pittsburgh we can design and manufacture tube inspection probes and calibration standards to any size, configuration and from almost any material. In conjunction with TesTex developed techniques such as LFET, BFET, RFET & ECT we can find a solution for any inspection request.
Developing our own equipment enables us to find better solutions for our customers and exceed their expectations as we are not restricted to the standard industry technologies
